EKOGRID™ technology has successfully performed soil remediation of organic pollutants in various properties around the world, including old industrial sites, gas stations, parking lots, manufacturing sites, and chemical and other factory locations. Large ground remediation can be performed in a matter of months if the soil has a good level of organic activity.

Our technology has affirmed that applications controlling soil or groundwater movement can be achieved more effectively than with traditional electrokinetics.

Our projects in Europe, South America, the United States and China have already shown that the EKOGRID™ system is highly effective at reducing the content of aliphatic hydrocarbons and crude oil, and also aromatic compounds such as PAH, BTEX, and chlorinated hydrocarbons (chlorophenols, PCE and TCE).

The effect is not limited to the compounds named above – the method will be effective at degrading a variety of other organic materials.

CASE: Lube Oil Contaminated Sewage Lagoon in Canada

EKOGRID™ technology was used to remediate hydrocarbon impacted sludge in a former sewage lagoon in Canada. Contaminants of concern were mainly petroleum hydrocarbons (BTEX/TPH). The area remediated was approximately 7500m2 with a total volume of over 15.000 m3 of sludge remediated.

CASE: Diesel Pipeline Spill in Ecuador

Break in service pipeline polluted 2,800m2 of soil in Ecuador; combined in-situ electro kinetic oxidation and bioremediation solution remediated the polluted soil in just 10 months.

CASE: Fast Creosote In-situ Remediation

EKOGRID technology amplifies the remediation power of nature and has already proven to be an ecological, sustainable, and cost-efficient way of cleaning and remediating the environment in ten countries across five continents. In the case of Canada, the goal of the test was to verify the remediation effect of creosotes, and EKOGRID™ was proven to be a very fast creosote remediation method.

CASE: In-situ Soil Remediation at a Busy Railway Yard

A busy railway logistics center in Sao Paolo in Brazil had been contaminated by polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH). Cleaning through the traditional mass transfer method (dig and dump) would have stopped business and hence EKOGRID in-situ remediation solution was selected. After just three months of remediation process the area was cleaned without any disturbances on rail traffic.

CASE: Remediation of Aliphatic Hydrocarbons and PAH

In Ängelholm in Sweden EKOGRID in-situ solution successfully demonstrated its capability to quickly clean up embankments and bottom sediments of a stormwater pond, which was polluted by fuel oil leaked from a nearby industrial area. The toxic substances included aliphatic hydrocarbons and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH).

CASE: Above-the-Ground Storage Tank Site Remediation

The EKOGRID in-situ soil remediation project at a former oil above-the-ground storage tank (AST) site in Finland is a successful evidence of a cost-efficient and environment-friendly way of cleaning up abandoned storage tank sites. After completion of the EKOGRID in-situ remediation, the need for excavation, dump and replacement soil was reduced by 90%, from a total of 15,000 m3 of polluted soil to 1,500 m3. The reduction corresponds to a potential cost saving of EUR 1 million, when compared to a traditional "dig-and-dump" remediation!

CASE: Seabed and Sediments Remediation

The EKOGRID system is being set up in Töölö Bay in the fall of 2017 to verify its potential for breaking up harmful substances in the sediment, such as oil and PAH (polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons) compounds. The system produces a weak electric field in the area, which has been proven to accelerate the decay of harmful substances in soil.
